Sri Lanka – Dhowa Rock Temple

The Dhowa Rock Temple dates back over 2000 years and is a protected heritage site + a hidden gem in the surroundings of Ella. I really enjoyed seeing it. The Dhowa Rock Temple (also known as Dowa Rajamaha Viharaya) is famous for the beautiful paintings and sculptures in the temple and of course for the massive unfinished buddha that is carved into the rock.

What wikipedia says: Dhowa Rock Temple is a protected heritage site in Sri Lanka, situated in the central mountains of the Uva province. Dhowa is a small, ancient village situated on the Badulla – Bandarawela main road.
